Fluorite is calcium fluoride (CaF₂), Mohs 4, crystallizing in glassy cubes and octahedra across a wider color range than any other mineral: green, purple, blue, yellow, pink, often banded together in one piece. China is the world's leading producer, with celebrated material from Hunan and Zhejiang. Under ultraviolet light many fluorites glow blue-violet — the phenomenon of fluorescence takes its very name from this stone.
